2003 GMC ENVOY & ENVOY XL: MORE POWER AND INCREASED VALUE

2004 GMC Envoy
Following their spectacular debut last year, GMC's Envoy and Envoy XL continue to expand their appeal in 2003 with attractively priced base models, simplified option packaging and new features, including the midsize SÚV segment's most powerful V8 for Envoy XL. 2004 GMC Envoy
Envoy's surprising refinement and performance has earned numerous awards, such as Motor Trend's '2002 Sport/Útility of the Year,' Sport Truck Magazine's 'Truck of the Year,' and African American On Wheels and Latinos On Wheels 2002 'Úrban Wheels' award. Consumer acceptance has been equally resounding. Although the seven-passenger Envoy XL just became available in March 2002, the Envoy lineup already set new GMC midsize SÚV sales records in March, June and October 2001.

'Envoy has clearly captivated buyers by setting a new standard for midsize SÚV comfort, convenience and capability,' said Craig Bierley, GMC Envoy marketing director. 'And, for 2003, we're expanding that appeal with attractive pricing, simplified option packaging and additional product enhancements. Coupled with strong availability of Envoy XL models, these initiatives position the Envoy family for another record-breaking year.'

2004 GMC EnvoyAnd, Envoy continues to surprise the industry with the introduction of the revolutionary 2004 Envoy XÚV - the world's first vehicle with a power-sliding rear roof, drop or swing tailgate, all-weather cargo area, QuickDrain water-management system and a next-generation Midgate with a power window. This exclusive GMC product begins production in mid-2003.

Flexible options selection
Envoy and Envoy XL base SLE models provide increased value for 2003. The attractively priced, entry-level SLE models expand Envoy's reach to a broader range of customers. Customers can also order additional options on an individual basis, rather than as part of an equipment package. This adds potential savings and greater flexibility.

New Vortec 5300 5.3L V8
Envoy/Envoy XL's standard award-winning Vortec 4200 4.2L 24-valve, dual-overhead-cam inline six cylinder, now with 275 peak horsepower (increased from 270 hp) and 275 lb-ft of torque, is already the segment's most powerful engine. For Envoy XL customers who want even more low-end torque, higher cargo-hauling and trailering capability and faster off-line acceleration, GM's Vortec 5300 5.3L OHV V8 will be available in late fall. It generates a peak 290 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.

With its optional new Vortec 5300 and a 3.73 axle ratio, the Envoy XL provides trailering capacities of 7,200 pounds for 2WD models and 7,000 pounds for 4WD models.

More flexible lighting control
All Envoy models feature a new, four-position headlamp switch, allowing drivers to turn off the daytime running lamps (DRL) and automatic headlamps when necessary. Drivers can defeat the DRLs and auto headlamps for one ignition cycle, simply by reverse-rotating the headlamp switch - i.e., turning it counter-clockwise one position. The switch is spring-loaded and pops back. The DRLs and auto headlamps turn back on, whenever the ignition is restarted.

Larger fuel tank
Envoy XL also features a large 25-gallon fuel tank, providing a 425-mile driving range for 2WD/4WD customers in combined city/highway driving with the standard engine. A larger, 22-gallon tank, planned for Envoy beginning in fall 2002, extends the combined city/highway driving range of 2WD models to 418 miles and 4WD models to 396 miles between fill-ups.

2004 GMC ENVOY XUV OPENS NEW CHAPTER IN SPORT UTILITIES

2004 GMC Envoy
GMC's Envoy series SÚVs have a new family member for 2004 - the all-new Envoy XÚV, one of the most versatile SÚVs on the market. The XÚV's unprecedented levels of flexibility, functionality and state-of-the-art technology include:2004 GMC Envoy
Power-sliding rear roof: With a touch of a button, Envoy XÚV easily converts the cargo area from fully enclosed to open air. When the rear roof is fully retracted, a 32-inch x 32-inch (813 mm x 813 mm) opening allows Envoy XÚV to carry large or tall items upright. This innovation complements (and does not cover) XÚV's available power-operated sunroof up front, giving Envoy XÚV both exceptional versatility and open-air fun.

Next-generation Midgate with power glass: Along with its power-sliding rear roof, Envoy XÚV's advanced Midgate is key to its versatility. The Midgate glass can be raised or lowered with the push of a button. When the window is raised, the passenger compartment is sealed off from the rear cargo area. Lower the glass, fold and tumble the seats and flip down the Midgate, and an extended cargo bed appears that offers a total of 95.2 cubic feet (2,696L) of cargo space. With its dual-function tailgate, which allows two-tier loading in the cargo area, Envoy XÚV is also the perfect vehicle for transporting wide cargo, such as multiple 4-foot x 8-foot sheets of plywood.

All-weather cargo area: The rear cargo area is engineered to be weather-resistant, with the innovative QuickDrain system that can channel as much as 35 gallons (132L) of water per minute out of the cargo area. This allows the cargo area to be quickly hosed down after hauling wet or messy items like topsoil. The cargo area itself has four tie-down rings, which can be moved to any of 12 different locations, and there are another four fixed rings on the roof, allowing for maximum flexibility in hauling all types of cargo. GM also offers an extensive selection of GM Accessories to expand Envoy XÚV's cargo-carrying versatility.

Drop or swing tailgate with power window: Envoy XÚV's dual-function tailgate provides increased flexibility. The tailgate power window can be raised or lowered at the touch of a button. With the window fully lowered, the tailgate can be dropped for ease of loading and unloading. The tailgate can also swing right, allowing bumper access to the cargo area.

Envoy XÚV's reconfiguration features were designed to allow consumers to perform every functional change with ease. At the push of a button, Envoy XÚV's power-sliding roof, tailgate window and Midgate glass open or close. The tailgate drops or swings right with one-handed operation for ease of loading and unloading. And the seats and Midgate can be reconfigured in seconds without tools.

Part of Envoy family
'Envoy XÚV is an outstanding addition to the Envoy family and to GMC's portfolio of Professional Grade products,' said Lynn Myers, Pontiac-GMC general marketing manager. 'There's nothing like the versatility of the Envoy XÚV in the market.'

Sharing the same platform as the award-winning GMC Envoy XL, Envoy XÚV is the embodiment of Professional Grade engineering. Envoy XÚV is specifically designed to meet the diverse needs of today's SÚV customers in one multifunctional vehicle.

For all its versatility, Envoy XÚV never forgets its family roots. Envoy XÚV maintains the expressive styling and high levels of comfort, performance and amenities inherent in Envoy's five- and seven-passenger models. 'The XÚV makes the breadth of the Envoy family unprecedented,' Myers added.

'Our research has proven that a large number of SÚV customers want multi-functional, cargo-carrying capability without sacrificing passenger comfort and accommodations,' said Craig Bierley, Envoy marketing director. 'Envoy XÚV is the first and only sport utility vehicle that bridges this gap.'

Choice of powertrains
Standard power for Envoy XÚV is the award-winning Vortec 4200 4.2L 24-valve, dual-overhead-cam inline six-cylinder engine. It is rated at 275 horsepower (205 kw) and 275 lb.-ft. (373 Nm) of torque and is the segment's most powerful base engine.

For Envoy XÚV customers who want even more low-end torque, acceleration and higher cargo-hauling capability, GM's Vortec 5300 5.3L OHV V-8 is available. It generates 290 horsepower (216 kw) and 325 lb.-ft. (441 Nm) of torque. With its optional Vortec 5300 the Envoy XÚV provides towing capacities of 6,500 pounds (2,948 kg) for 2WD models and 6,400 pounds (2,903 kg) for 4WD models. The XÚV model with the standard Vortec 4200 engine towing capacity is 5,800 pounds (2,631 kg) for 2WD and 5,706 pounds (2,585 kg) for 4WD.
